Challenges & Opportunities for Implementing No Net Loss / Net Positive Impact (NNL/NPI) strategies

This session is for anyone interested in how business can reduce their impacts and contribute to a more sustainable future. The format is a series of cutting-edge presentations reflecting on the challenges of achieving No Net Loss (or Net Positive Impact) for biodiversity in a number of different sectors.

The session will bring together the conservation, business and research communities to share experiences of implementing NNL/NPI strategies from a diversity of sectors to deliver cross-sectoral learning. Important themes include how to best integrate social issues and Nature-based Solutions. The session will start with a research update to set the scene and summarize recent advances on the application of the mitigation hierarchy. There will be a series of presentations from the business community presenting their own experience and case studies. A presentation on the target-based compensation approach will explain a recently published framework for ensuring that actions completed as part of the mitigation hierarchy contribute to national or regional biodiversity targets. Finally, there will be a panel discussion followed by a brief summary presentation drawing together the steps needed to enhance the momentum towards a more sustainable future.
