During this session we will discuss opportunities for aligning public and private applications of natural capital accounting and assessments. It will focus on how business can use data derived from Ecosystems Accounting by governments (SEEA/EA), and what it can learn from the government standard to further standardize business applications.

The aim of this session is to enable an exchange between businesses and policymakers on natural capital applications. The new government standard on natural capital accounting will be introduced by Dr. Bert Kroese, the chair of the UN Committee of Experts on Environmental-Economic Accounting (UNCEEA).

We then will discuss with a panel consisting of representatives from the UN, business as well as national governments how application of this new standard can help mainstreaming nature into government decision-making. As part of this discussion, we will hear insights from a pilot study on how the private sector can build on national natural capital accounting, both by using the data derived from SEEA/EA applications and by learning from the standardization developed by the UNCEEA.
