You are warmly invited to attend a presentation and debate on the Protocol recently launched by the Natural Capital Coalition. This Aberdeen event is open to Fellows of the RSA, staff and guests of the James Hutton Institute and thus to members of each of Scottish Land & Estates, ICAS, Law Society of Scotland, and IoD Scotland.

About the Panel

Professor Alison Hester BSc MSc PhD FSB is the Research Theme Leader for  Safeguarding Natural Capital, one of the James Hutton Institute’s six Research Themes. She chairs the Natural Capital Initiative and also sits on the Scottish Forum on Natural Capital Steering Group and is a member of its Expert Advisory Panel. The James Hutton Institute is a world-leading scientific research organisation working to resolve global challenges in food, energy, and water security. The Institute works in partnership with people, organisations, and governments to enhance sustainable environmental, social, and economic development and to deliver practical solutions for our shared future.

Andrew Wells is Based in The Crown Estate’s Edinburgh office, Andrew Wells oversees policy development and business delivery objectives in relation to commercial forestry, access, tourism, education, and environment, across The Crown Estate’s diverse rural and coastal portfolio in Scotland. He has worked for The Crown Estate, the organisation that manages the hereditary property of the Sovereign, for 26 years, up until recently working UK wide and previously as Head Ranger on the award winning Glenlivet Estate, where he played a key role in the implementation of the Estate Development Project, which involves a wide range of tourism, farm diversification, natural heritage, countryside interpretation and community projects. Formerly Vice-Convener of the Cairngorms National Park Outdoor Access Forum, and currently Chairman of the Cairngorms Nature Partnership, Andrew has been closely involved in environmental resource management, education, and rural economic development throughout his career. A graduate of geography from Liverpool University with an MSc in Natural Resource Management from Edinburgh University, he also holds a postgraduate Certificate of Education from Jordanhill College, Glasgow.

This event will be chaired by Niall Farquharson, who joined Johnston Carmichael in 2012 following the merger with Ritson Smith. He joined Ritson Smith on graduation in 1981, qualified as a CA in 1985 and became a Partner in 1988.  He has over 25 years’ experience working with owner managed and private equity backed businesses across a variety of industry sectors.  Niall Chairs the Firm’s Audit Leadership Group and is the Joint Managing Partner of the Aberdeen Office. Niall currently sits on the Authorisation Committee of ICAS, having previously sat on the ICAS Council, ICAS Audit Committee and ICAS CPD Committee.
