Position: Natural Capital Officer at WWF France

Position: Program Officer, Natural Capital
Duty station: Paris, France
Term: 3 years

WWF France is seeking a Program Officer to support their « Natural Capital » project activities. The Program Officer would work in the International Relations and Development (IRD) team in the Programmes department for a fixed term of 3 years.

Under the supervision of the IRD Manager, the Program Officer will drive the following activities:

  • In close collaboration with the Corporate Partnership team and the Green finance team, the Program Officer will contribute to convincing economic actors (corporates and investors in France) to take Natural Capital into accounts in their activities.
  • The Program Officer will develop a strategic vision and a narrative on Natural capital and on the necessity for decision makers to take it into account in all decisions, by linking this narrative and vision to concrete initiatives and projects undertaken inside and outside the WWF Network.

In the context of the WWF « Nature 2020 » strategy, and within the working group dedicated to it:

  • The Program Officer will carry out a strategic and operational review of all existing knowledge and studies around : the Natural Capital concept and related concepts (Ecosystem Services) ; the methodologies ; as well as the valuation and accounting tools for Natural Capital targeted at governments, companies and financial actors (knowledge gaps and needs, comparative advantages, success factors, etc.)
  • The Program Officer will pilot, organise and monitor the carrying out of detailed case studies on the benefits and avoided costs of taking Natural Capital into account in private and public decisions
  • The Program Officer will contribute to organising a French national dialogue on Natural Capital with private and public decision makers
  • The Program Officer will contribute to organising meetings and events in France and abroad to promote taking Natural Capital into account in private and public decisions
  • The Program Officer will ensure coordination with all other partners in the Economics4Nature Program
  • The Program Officer will be responsible for the management of this WWF France « Natural Capital » project, including developing work plans and writing technical and financial reports for the project Primary Donor

Eligibility requirements:

  • Applicant must hold a Master’s degree in Economics (minimum) with strong analytical and operational expertise in environmental economics, in particular with regards Natural Capital and Ecosystem Services concepts
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the field of Natural Capital (preferably in the Corporate and Finance sectors). Operational experience will be favoured.
  • Experience in advocacy and influence will be required

Technical Requirements:

  • Excellent skills for analysis, synthesis and popularizing information
  • Experience in project coordination and developing a strategic vision
  • Very good knowledge and technical skills in Natural Capital analytical, valuation and accounting tools targeted at corporate and financial actors as well as at the macroeconomic level
  • Excellent communication skills in writing and orally, in French and English
  • Excellent knowledge of academic and professional networks related to Natural Capital
  • Excellent knowledge of decisionmaking processes at the national, regional and global levels regarding environmental issues
  • Ability to work both in autonomy and in close collaboration with project teams in multiple cultural settings
  • Ability and experience with project fundraising and reporting

Employment Conditions:

  • Fixed-term position for 3 years, to be filled as soon as possible
  • Salary according to experience
  • Position based at WWF France office in Pré-St Gervais (Paris, France)
