COP 16 is only 2 weeks away and it marks an important milestone as it will be the first Conference of the Parties (COP) specifically focused on implementation since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at COP 15 in December 2022 in Montreal, Canada.
During COP 16, governments will have the crucial task of conducting a comprehensive review of the progress made in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It is expected that the Parties to the Convention will demonstrate how their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) align with and support the objectives of the Framework. Additionally, COP 16 will aim to further develop a robust monitoring framework and work towards enhancing resource mobilization to support the effective implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework.
We, together with our Hubs and other partners, are curating our COP16 programming with three objectives:
- To advocate for the integration of all capitals in decision-making to tackle our collective global challenges.
- To support Business for Nature in their advocacy role in implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework the following areas:
Target 15 – Using the new launched Beta Framework for Integrated Decision Making to support implementation.
Target 18 – Reforming harmful subsidies.
Implementation at national level – National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPS) showcasing the work of the hub community. - To amplify our key message for the interconnectedness of our global challenges and advocate for solutions which bridge across climate, nature and people.
