Our businesses. Our economies. Our societies. They all depend on nature.

At the UN Biodiversity COP15 196 governments came together and deliver a new global agreement on nature.

Ahead of COP15, more than 330 business and finance institutions from 52 countries with combined revenues of more than US$1.5 trillion urged world leaders to adopt mandatory requirements for all large businesses and financial institutions to assess and disclose their impacts and dependencies on biodiversity by 2030, within Target 15 of the Global Biodiversity Framework.

For the first time in a multi-lateral agreement, governments at committed to require all large business and financial institutions to assess and disclose their risks, impacts and dependencies on nature, through their operations, supply and value chains, and portfolios.

Business will also be expected to reduce negative and increase positive impacts on nature in line with the Global Biodiversity Framework’s 2030 mission to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.

This clear ambition will accelerate the transformation of our socio-economic systems and require business to act now.

A united voice business voice is now more important than ever.

Mandatory assessment and disclosure will create fair competition for business, increase accountability, engage investors, empower consumers, involve SMEs through supply chains, help ensure the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities and ultimately accelerate the transformation of our economies.
